ORGANIZATION
Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among forcibly displaced immigrant survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement resulting from war, torture, persecution related to identity and beliefs and other forms of interpersonal violence. At our Mosaic Healing Center, we: (a) Provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world, (b) Expand multidisciplinary clinical capacity to serve highly diverse immigrants through an in-depth yearlong clinical training program, (c) Conduct community outreach, support, and training to address the needs of forcibly displaced immigrants and newcomers, and (d) Advocate for policies to prevent trauma and re-traumatization among international survivors of human rights abuses.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic nonprofit organization working at the juncture of global mental health and human rights. Reporting to the Psychosocial Care Manager and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team providing direct services, the primary responsibility of the Social Worker will be to provide case management services for refugee and asylum-seeking clients from diverse countries and contexts around the world. As part of the Psychosocial Care Program, the Social Worker will support the ongoing development of structures and systems to provide sensitive and effective psychosocial care for clients, as well as help establish collaborative partnerships with community agencies, community members, and organizations in order to increase clients’ access to support for their varied medical, social service, legal, educational, employment and other essential needs.
In addition to experience providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive case management services for immigrants from different countries, this position requires flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness, and independence. Essential for this position is a sustained commitment to advancing anti-racism, social justice, and human rights, with a focus on the needs of forcibly displaced communities seeking greater safety and dignity in the United States.
Due to public health & safety considerations during the Covid-19 pandemic, PTR has been operating remotely since the spring of 2020. The Social Worker will work remotely until PTR returns to in-person work, at which time they would need to be located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The roles and responsibilities of the Social Worker will include the following:
Provision of Psychosocial Care & Case Management (60%)
• Directly provide case management services for refugee and asylum-seeking individuals, families, and groups.
• Complete intake assessments and develop psychosocial goals and priorities in collaboration with clients. Conduct follow-up assessments and monitor client progress and developing needs and circumstances at 6-month intervals.
• Collaboratively assess clients’ psychosocial needs, capacities, priorities, and resources. Provide tailored case management and advocacy support, including assistance with: connecting clients with limited income to community resources to address varied medical, legal, social, and economic, employment, and educational needs.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement interventions to facilitate clients’ healing, helping facilitate access to social and material support in conditions of exile.
• Provide brief supportive and crisis counseling and refer internally for ongoing mental health support as needed.
• Assist the Psychosocial Care Manager in the development and design of psychosocial case management services and structures across different agency programs.
• Participate in multidisciplinary client services and help achieve the goals of the Psychosocial Care Program. Support overall client care, collaborating with psychological, psychiatric, and community outreach providers. Participate in client care team meetings, consultation, and supervision, as necessary.
• Complete case notes, documentation, and data collection in Salesforce electronic client charting system as per agency guidelines and procedures.
Community Collaboration & Other Responsibilities (40%)
● Represent PTR to community members, partners, and organizations to engage in consultative processes to assess community needs and capacities, as well as disseminate information about PTR’s services.
● Contribute to the improvement and expansion of PTR’s psychosocial care programming through enhanced case management, partnership development, and referrals to the community. Support the development of formal working relationships and referral procedures with existing partners.
● Conduct service mapping in the Bay Area and develop new collaborative working relationships with a variety of support networks, service providers, and government and community resources in alignment with the global cultural, contextual, and linguistic needs of client communities.
● Engage in new programming initiatives and partnerships as they arise and identify opportunities for psychosocial care program development.
● Complete data reporting and administrative tasks, attend PTR staff activities and events and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education & Experience
• Master’s degree in Social Work and Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) • 2+ years of experience providing psychosocial care and/or case management support for marginalized communities, especially immigrants
• Experience working cross-culturally with immigrants or experience working internationally with marginalized and oppressed groups
• Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Experience
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Experience working with asylum seekers and/or refugees strongly preferred
• Experience working with adults who are victims of domestic violence / intimate partner abuse
• International work, study, and/or living experience
• Fluency in one or more languages, with Spanish or Tigrinya highly desirable
