A telehealth nurse conducts patient assessment, education, crisis intervention, counseling, and triage over the telephone or other forms of interactive media. They utilize care protocols, standards, and guidelines in arriving at decisions. They could be employed by home care agencies or insurance and medical groups.
Educational requirementsA registered nurse license is required; certification in telehealth nursing as part of ambulatory nursing is provided by the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing.
