Investigating Mechanisms of Dysregulated Immune Tolerance in Autoimmunity

The Ashouri Lab has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in understanding how immune tolerance is bypassed in autoimmune diseases. Our lab is focused on advancing our knowledge of T cell signaling and repertoire thresholds required for immune tolerance. We study how the complex molecular interactions between cells alter immune health and the impact dysregulation in these communication pathways has on immune mediated diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. We utilize mouse models, human samples, along with molecular, cell-based, genetic, and multi-omic technologies including paired single-cell RNA and TCR-sequencing, and genetic engineering of primary immune cells. A major driving force of the lab is to identify the TCR specificities, gene expression profile, and signaling networks of cells involved in antigen recognition in autoimmune diseases.

We seek talented and highly motivated candidates with strong backgrounds in immunology, molecular biology, computational biology, microbiology, and/or murine models of inflammatory disease. Candidates will be expected to be able to work independently, but also collaborate with other groups, and be active, hands-on contributors to the Ashouri Lab. Our lab and collaborators form a multidisciplinary team of immunologists, molecular biologists, microbiologists, and computational biologists. The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Judith Ashouri-Sinha, MD, but will work closely with collaborators within and outside of the group.

As a new lab, we are keen to find candidates who will foster a creative, inclusive, and collaborative environment. The lab has a strong focus on mentorship and individual career development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments, preparation of scientific presentations, grants, and publications, interactions with collaborators, as well as supervision of technicians or students as needed. This is a position with full salary support available for at least 3 years with opportunities and flexibility for the postdoctoral fellow to grow their own research interests alongside the funded projects, if desired.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who have demonstrated rigorous basic and translational research during their graduate training will be considered.  Significant experience in standard laboratory techniques (such as molecular biology, western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry, mouse studies, data analysis, etc.) and/or computational analysis of large datasets is required. The candidate should be highly motivated, dedicated, and a team player.

Requirements

  • PhD or MD/PhD in immunology or microbiology, or related field
  • Experience in cell culture techniques
  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Skillsets:

  • Strongly preferred: Experience with mouse models, willing to work with mouse models
  • Experience with T cell immunology and/or immune cell gene engineering
  • Experience with flow and/or mass cytometry
  • Experience with next-generation/single-cell sequencing for transcriptional and epigenetic profiling of immune cells
  • Strong track record of first-author publications
How to Apply:

Candidates interested in this position should send a cover letter (1 page), a curriculum vitae (CV), and a list of three references to Dr. Judith Ashouri-Sinha ([email protected]). Please include “Ashouri_Lab_Postdoc” in the email subject heading.
