Why we're reaching out to UCSF students -- Many of our mentees want to study something in the sciences, but unfortunately, we don't have many mentors with that background. Furthermore, many of our mentees have also not explored the idea of grad school, and so having mentors who've followed this path will allow them to find out if that's something they want to pursue as well!
Minds Matter SF is an education non-profit that connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world.
For the duration of the 3 year program, each mentee is supported by two mentors, instructors, and a whole host of other volunteers. In the instructional program, MMSF offers students math, reading, writing and critical thinking support needed to do well academically, both in school and on standardized tests. In the mentoring program, each student is matched with a pair of mentors dedicated to providing individualized support to help them navigate the complex college preparation and admissions process.
