The Feeney Laboratory at UCSF is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows to lead NIH-funded studies examining the T cell response to pathogens encountered in infancy. Specific projects focus on the effector and regulatory T cell response to malaria (CD4 and gamma delta T cells), and the fetal immune response to perinatal pathogens (malaria, CMV, HIV). Our laboratory has strong international collaborations, primarily in Uganda,  and we have amassed large sample banks of PBMC, cord blood, and placental specimens in order to better understand maternofetal tolerance and the impact of in utero antigen exposure on fetal immune development using techniques including flow and mass cytometry (CyTOF), RNAseq, and single cell RNAseq. Support for bioinformatics training will be provided.

Enthusiastic, passionate, and self-motivated candidates are encouraged to apply The successful candidate(s) will have a range of opportunities to pursue patient-oriented human immunology research based on established international collaborations leveraging banked human specimens, with structured mentoring support and opportunities for international travel. Additional professional development opportunities are available through affiliation with the newly launched ImmunoX program at UCSF (https://immunox.ucsf.edu).

Job Requirements:

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. and/or MD. A background in immunology or infectious disease research is preferred. Experience with flow cytometry, RNAseq, and/or bioinformatics are desirable. Excellent communication and writing skills are essential.
