Healthcare Staffing Professionals (HSP) is hiring multiple Epidemiologist positions to work with the LA County Acute Communicable Disease Control Epidemiology and Data Unit. Selected candidates will be hired by HSP and placed within the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. All positions will support COVID-19 response efforts. - High level SAS coding
- Data analysis

The Epidemiologist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and performing QA on data linkage projects. This includes writing code to match between DPH surveillance data and external data sources, running existing matching processes to update surveillance data, validating data linkage outputs, overseeing data import processes, and maintaining data linkage documentation. Analyses will be performed in SAS, R, and/or Python.
- SAS and R coding to process and manage large COVID-19 case and lab datasets
- Produce COVID-19 daily and weekly reports for DPH leadership using SAS and R
- Generate data visualizations using R, Excel and PowerPoint
- Fill data requests
- Works on the ACDC Outbreak Data Team; the bulk of time is spent on outbreak data quality assurance, which includes identifying and fixing discrepancies in COVID-19 outbreak data and troubleshooting data concerns for Outbreak Management Branch public health investigators
- Plays a lead role in programming, developing and implementing programs in SAS or R, identifying opportunities to better identify outbreak quality assurance opportunities and automate processes
- Works with ACDC Data Integration Team to import batched data into case and outbreak database
- Analyzes complex data for different projects to publish and inform decision-making processes
- Uses SAS or R to pull and present data for internal and external data requests (e.g. DPH press briefings, media requests)
- Collaborates with other ACDC outbreak teams to ensure consistent data standards across outbreak settings; this includes scheduling and attending ad hoc meetings and working on documentation for outbreak investigator reference guides
The Epidemiologist will work on a collaborative team responsible for the linkage of surveillance & vaccination data, as well as fulfilling the related reporting needs. This includes writing code to match between available data sources, validating data linkage outputs, and maintaining data linkage documentation. Analyses will be performed in SAS, R, and/or Python. This individual will also be responsible for contributing to the development of analysis plans to answer questions related to the surveillance-vaccination integrated data, running regular reports, and responding to ad hoc data requests. Desired qualifications include experience with communicating data to a wide range of audiences and developing tables/charts/data visualizations to aid in communication efforts.

Timeline: The position will start immediately upon acceptance and employment clearance and is initially funded through 2/22/2022 with potential renewal.
Pay Rate: $53.71/hr working 40 hours a week

Shifts: 100% telework. 40-hour work week, possibly working a flex schedule on the weekends, opportunities for OT.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent and three years of experience assisting in the design, conduct, and evaluation of epidemiologic studies and field investigations -OR- A doctoral degree form an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent -AND- one-year work experience as an epidemiologist; and
Desirable Qualifications:
- Windows-based laptop or desktop device, with a speaker and mic;
- Reliable Wi-fi/internet access; and
- Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance.
- Experience conducting intermediate epidemiologic analyses, including regression modeling.
- Experience using statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, R) to manage data and conduct statistical analyses, including coding macros
- Familiar with project management
