The position will be equally split between Dr. Link and Dr. Kazakia's research groups. Dr. Link's research group works on imaging biomarkers to characterize and predict osteoarthritis, in particular how weight gain and weight loss affect disease progression. The team also investigates mediators driving disease such as synovitis, muscle mass and local adipose tissue. The position will focus on analyzing and segmenting imaging studies such as knee MRIs. The candidates will work with other team members on developing deep learning algorithms for image segmentation and predicting osteoarthritis progression. The team will use imaging and clinical data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative cohort.     Dr. Kazakia’s Bone Quality Research Lab projects include development of novel image analysis algorithms and their clinical application to musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoporosis. Specifically, this position will focus on: 1) development of image processing techniques using both CT and MR data to visualize bone structure and explore progression of bone disease, and 2) the application of these techniques to NIH-funded clinical studies on diseases with significant skeletal implications (eg diabetes, HIV). More information on Dr. Kazakia’s research program can be found at:    https://radiology.ucsf.edu/research/labs/musculoskeletal-quantitative-imaging/labs/kazakia

Job Requirements:

The candidate should ideally be a radiologist in training or recently board certified, who is interested in pursuing an academic career in radiology. We expect technical interest and knowledge in developing image processing techniques and artificial intelligence algorithms. We also expect knowledge in interpreting musculoskeletal imaging studies and interest in applying novel technologies to clinical studies and clinical data interpretation.
