Duties: The California Poison Control System provides over the phone information to California health care professionals, and to the general public, regarding the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of poisoning or potential poisoning. Successful applicants will join our state-wide multidisciplinary poison control team, which provides telephone advice and information across a broad spectrum of toxicology topics including poisoning related to drugs, household chemical exposures, substances of abuse, plants, venoms, and environmental chemicals. Employment is with the UCSF School of Pharmacy. Opportunities exist for research and academic publication. Poison Control Center experience is not required. Extensive on-the-job training will be provided. Required Qualifications: - Pharm.D. Degree - CA Licensed Pharmacist in good standing currently or by start of employment - Excellent drug information skills and knowledge of pharmacology, toxicology, and pathophysiology - Superb written and verbal communication skills - Adaptable to situations involving a range of callers including the lay public and healthcare professionals - Willingness to work a variety of shifts (including overnight, weekends, and holidays) - Enthusiasm for teaching consumers and health care professionals - All final candidates for employment are required to undergo a background check and fingerprinting.

Since inception, CPCS has received over six million calls, many of which have averted tragedies and saved lives. Our program’s success can be attributed to our specially trained toxicologists, who have prior education and training as physicians, pharmacists or nurses.
CPCS operates as a single virtual call center, though maintains four divisions located in southern, central and northern California. Divisions use uniform protocols and guidelines to provide free, immediate, high-quality emergency telephone advice for poison exposures, to the public and medical professionals. Geographical redundancy across the state allows CPCS to provide services uninterrupted, in the event of natural disasters affecting one, two or three divisions.
