The Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) offers career and professional development support to students and postdocs. We are seeking a student who can assist the OCPD Program Director with the Motiving INformed Decisions (MIND) and Graduate Student Internships for Career Exploration (GSICE) programs.

The goal of the GSICE and MIND programs is to move the career decision point for graduate students and postdocs from the end of postdoctoral training to the end of graduate training. In order to make informed decisions about what career to pursue, students need opportunities not only to learn about what career options exist, but also to gain hands-on experience in a given field to determine where their skills and interests lie. This experience also serves a second function: to make the students more attractive to future employers.

Who should apply: Life science Ph.D. students and postdocs*

Time Commitment: Variable by project, not to exceed 10 hrs/week, from March 2020 through December 2020. For information about specific projects and hourly commitment, please contact Linda Louie at [email protected].

Salary: $880/month.

Start Date: Open Until Filled. First review on February 27, 2020.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Program Director in the programming, assessment, and evaluation of MIND and GSICE programs;
  • Manage the MIND and GSICE online classrooms and grading;
  • Assist the Event Planner in the logistics, set-up, and breakdown of MIND and GSICE events;
  • In coordination with OCPD’s outreach efforts, market of career exploration, experiential learning, and other OCPD programming opportunities to MIND and GSICE participants/alumni;
  • In coordination with OCPD’s outreach efforts, identify stories or data from MIND and GSICE participants to feature on OCPD’s social media platforms;
  • Other duties as assigned.

*Graduate Students and Postdocs: Graduate students and postdocs on a UCSF sponsored visa type may be eligible for this position based on visa status. Please contact ISSO to confirm eligibility. Graduate students who are obtaining funding are required to determine if they are eligible to work with OCPD based on their status. If you have a fellowship, check with your funding source to determine your eligibility. Feel free to check in with OCPD as we may currently have that information.
