The Buck Institute for Research on Aging is looking for a Staff Scientist to perform high-throughput screening experiments and work as an independent contributor and in support of a team.

JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a Staff Scientist with specific high-throughput screening and laboratory automation experience to design and perform experiments together with a team of scientists at the Buck Institute. This is a laboratory managerial role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Upkeeping a robotic high-throughput work cell.
  • Supplies ordering.
  • Maintaining contact with field technicians.
  • Understanding the operation of all instruments and workflows in the work cell.

Ability to design and implement assays using the standard instrument control software in consultation with the scientists involved in the program. The program uses chemical library screens and cellular phenotyping using microscopy in the context of human aging.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $80,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience

Job Requirements: 

Education & Technical Experience

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Proficient with robotic liquid handling systems, such as JANUS or Biomek
  • Experience with systems comprised of integration of multiple instruments
  • Familiar with library screens with chemical libraries larger than 1,000 compounds
  • Knowledge of measurement and assay technologies
  • Algorithmic thinking is required, scripting or coding experience is welcome
  • Knowledge and practical experience with basic biochemistry and cell biology
  • Cell culturing experience
