Position Definition:

NCIRE- The Veterans Health Research Institute, affiliated with UCSF/SFVA Orthopedic Translational Research lab, has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to study genetic/cellular therapy for muscle dystrophy.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist supervisor/PI in research surgical procedures related to muscle injury in animals.
  • Assist in vitro culture of cells and explant tissues.
  • Assist in tissue harvesting, histology, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Analyzing and assisting gene expression with RT-PCR, sequencing and Western-blot.
  • Assist in isolating cells from muscle and other tissue with fluorescence-activated cells sorting (FACS).
  • Assist in editing/modifying muscle cell gene expression with CRISPR and other methods.
  • Assist in measuring muscle function in vivo and ex vivo
  • Maintain laboratory supplies, order supplies as needed, and maintain an organized and functional laboratory environment.
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements: 
  • BA/BS in biology or related science major.
  • Basic genetics and cell biology scientific techniques and related laboratory or experimental experience such as gene cloning, PCR, cell culture, transfection.
  • Previous experience with CRISPR and iPS is preferred.
  • Previous experience with mouse surgery/experiment is preferred.
  • Previous experience with musculoskeletal tissue histology is preferable.
