Position Definition:
NCIRE- The Veterans Health Research Institute, affiliated with UCSF/SFVA Orthopedic Translational Research lab, has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to study genetic/cellular therapy for muscle dystrophy.
Essential Functions:
- Assist supervisor/PI in research surgical procedures related to muscle injury in animals.
- Assist in vitro culture of cells and explant tissues.
- Assist in tissue harvesting, histology, and immunohistochemistry.
- Analyzing and assisting gene expression with RT-PCR, sequencing and Western-blot.
- Assist in isolating cells from muscle and other tissue with fluorescence-activated cells sorting (FACS).
- Assist in editing/modifying muscle cell gene expression with CRISPR and other methods.
- Assist in measuring muscle function in vivo and ex vivo
- Maintain laboratory supplies, order supplies as needed, and maintain an organized and functional laboratory environment.
- Other duties as assigned
- BA/BS in biology or related science major.
- Basic genetics and cell biology scientific techniques and related laboratory or experimental experience such as gene cloning, PCR, cell culture, transfection.
- Previous experience with CRISPR and iPS is preferred.
- Previous experience with mouse surgery/experiment is preferred.
- Previous experience with musculoskeletal tissue histology is preferable.
