Job description

A staff research associate is available in the Drs. Bastian/ Chen laboratory in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Mission Bay Campus of UCSF. The candidate will work to support research on melanoma by performing a broad range of molecular cell biology experiments including cell culture, Western blotting, cloning, isolation of DNA and RNA from tissues and cells, omics studies, mass spectrometry, and mouse breeding, genotyping and drug treatment. A limited amount of time will be devoted to day-to-day laboratory management including maintenance of core laboratory equipment.

Job Requirements: 

Required Qualifications:

• Experience in working with laboratory mice

• Experience in tissue culture and western blotting

• Experience in PCR

Preferred Qualifications, particularly for more senior positions:

• Graduate degree in a science related field

• Experience in molecular cloning and xenograft models

• Scientific curiosity and a strong motivation to contribute to the field

• At least two (2) years of previous research experience

Education: 

• B.S. or B.A. in biology or chemistry, or a related field is required. SRA appointed at the higher rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of experience in molecular biology or cancer research
