  • Performs administrative duties to develop and implement strategic plans of quality medical care. Medical Director is also responsible for a panel of patients.
  • Serves as preceptor to interns and residents as requested or as needed. Conducts clinical supervision of physicians and serves as point of contact for questions related to Medical matters.
  • Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Clinic Director to optimize and integrate clinical staffing to ensure optimal operational strengths and structure. Participates in recruitment of Physicians and other clinic positions such as, specialists, NP’s, PA’s, and RN’s as needed. Reviews and screens CV’s, and participates in clinic onsite interview panel. Obtains professional references with help from Human Resources.
  • With assistance from Clinic Director, reviews personnel requisition forms to be submitted for approval to ensure personnel requests are submitted to Human Resources accurately and timely.
  • Consults with Chief Medical Officer on medical equipment and system enhancements and modifications for the Clinic and the feasibility of service expansions.
  • In partnership and with help of Clinic Director, addresses staff schedules, productivity, conducts performance reviews, peer reviews and evaluations.
  • Coach, mentor and lead clinician’s goal setting. Counsels staff as needed with assistance from Clinic Director and Human Resources.
  • Supervises the provision of clinical services, provides in-service educational programs for required staff and signs off advance practice clinicians provider charts.
  • Provides comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages in accordance with standardized procedures and protocols. Provides age-appropriate health education and counseling to patients, in a sensitive and supportive manner.
  • Provides patient follow-up and referrals as needed and within scope of his/her medical license.
  • Assists the Chief Medical Officer in meeting requirements of all regulatory and accrediting federal and state agencies.
  • Attends clinic leadership meetings to support the clinic and clinic medical programs. In cooperation with the Chief Medical Officer and other staff, provides quality assurance, patient care assessment, risk management, and program evaluation services with respect to all medical services provided at the Clinic.  
  • Implements and documents a comprehensive quality management team program, including regular medical audits, records reviews, protocol reviews, chart reviews of individual members of the clinic professional staff, and outcome studies. Establishes and implements a system of peer review, including written procedures.
  • Plans and conducts regular provider meetings for purposes of staff education, establishment of policies, procedures, quality improvement in patient care, and actively and productively participates in management team meetings.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination among clinicians working at the Clinic with regard to the Clinics’ policies, procedures, and operational issues.
  • Attends and participates in all assigned Board of Director meetings and assigned Executive Team Meetings appropriate to medical direction, e.g., quality assurance.
  • Accurately codes and educates Clinicians on any new or revised codes.
  • Assists with the development of the operating budget and ongoing planning and direction for operation within the budget through the fiscal year and providing input to the capital budget process for the site.
Job Requirements: 
  • M.D or D.O. graduate of an accredited medical school. 
  • Current BLS certification. 
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Physician with current California License and DEA certificate.  
  • 1-2 years’ experience providing primary care in a family practice or primary care setting preferred.
  • 1-2 years or more years of previous management experience preferred in a large primary care practice or a multi-specialty primary care setting.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, advice and train clinical professionals and/or students in areas of expertise.
  • Ability to lead and manage conflict resolution.
  • Prior work experience in FQHC setting desired but not required.
  • Working knowledge of state, federal, and private insurance referral/authorization protocols, federal, state, and county programs for the un/under insured a plus.
  • Prior experience utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR). NextGen experience a plus but not required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills desired but not required. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Sensitive to the needs and situations of a multi-cultural population from a variety of income levels.
