Biochemistry and Quantitative Pharmacology Department of the Pfizer Oncology Research Division in La Jolla, CA has an immediate full-time opening for an innovative and enthusiastic scientist to join our drug discovery team. This biochemist will make key contributions to the discovery of future cancer drugs through focused biochemical / binding and selectivity screens, the ligand SAR analysis, and kinetic, mechanistic and functional characterization of enzymes and other regulatory proteins of interest. This colleague will be actively engaged in drug discovery activities and provide scientific and technical expertise to multi-disciplinary project teams.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Development of a variety of impactful robust, automated plate-based biochemical and binding assays and innovative selectivity screens using best available technologies and equipment.
  • Assay execution, maintaining the quality of assays, data analysis and publication.
  • Kinetic and mechanistic characterization of lead compounds and biochemical pathways.
  • More complex data analyses to correlate biochemical, cellular and in vivo SAR for small-molecule projects.
  • Active engagement across cancer drug discovery activities and on project teams.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors with 3-5 years of experience or Master’s degree with 0-3 years of work experience.
  • Basic and/or drug discovery research experience studying enzymes or regulatory proteins and their molecular interactions with small-molecule ligands.
  • Assay development and screening experience.
  • Strong technical and computational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Inquisitive BS/MS Biochemist who has been actively engaged in exciting biochemical research projects.
  • Experience in cancer drug discovery, innovative methods in enzymology and biochemical pharmacology and knowledge of cell signaling pathways.
  • Strong technical abilities and skills in developing and performing automated plate-based pharmacology assays, enzyme kinetics and understanding inhibitor SAR.
