The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university is receiving applications to teach one or more lecture or laboratory sections connected to the general and organic chemistry sequences for academic year 2021-2022. Openings to teach lectures or laboratories for Chemistry 11 and 12 (General Chemistry I and II), Chemistry 31, 32, and 33 (Organic Chemistry I, II, and III). Specific needs and employment are determined individually for each of the three academic quarters (fall, winter, spring), but applicants need only apply once to this hiring pool.
Responsibilities: Duties include but are not limited to: A. Planning and teaching one or more lecture or laboratory sections of Chemistry 11 and 12 (General Chemistry I and II), Chemistry 31, 32, and 33 (Organic Chemistry I, II, and III).
B. Coordinating with other instructors through regularly scheduled meetings.
C. Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including:
1. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared way
2. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students
3. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus
4. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar (or to the lecture instructor, if applicable) by the designated deadline and in accordance with departmental policies
5. Administering narrative and numeric course evaluations to all students in all courses
Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry. Prior experience teaching the subject of the course for which the applicant is being considered is essential. Excellent communication skills.
