The Genomics Core provides state-of-the-art genomic and next generation sequencing (NGS) services to support basic and translational research for academic institutions and industry sectors.

We are currently recruiting for a highly motivated molecular biologist to join our Genomics Core Laboratory as a Research Technologist / Senior Research Technologist. This is a laboratory-based position, and expertise in NGS techniques is highly preferred. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team on single cell and spatial genomics projects employing various NGS-based methods and emerging technologies. In this role, the candidate will work in a highly interactive environment while maintaining a high degree of autonomy. The candidate is expected to become a central member of the lab, participating in consultation, planning and executing experiments, contributing to data interpretation, and communicating results to team and customers.

The Genomics Core loves to invest in developing our scientists. We offer opportunities for learning and growing professionally. Candidates who are highly skilled at molecular biology techniques, would like to pursue a career in the fields of genomics and NGS, and enjoy interacting with researchers from different areas of research are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Independently run, optimize and troubleshoot existing NGS library preparation pipelines including, but not limited to, single cell and spatial genomics and bulk RNA/DNA-seq
  • Develop and optimize custom NGS-based assays and emerging genomic technologies under manager supervision
  • Assess cell/nuclei/nucleic acid quality at checkpoints throughout NGS library preparation – from incoming sample quality control (QC) to final library validation
  • Isolation of nucleic acids from frozen cells/tissues and FFPE tissue sections
  • Ensure scientific rigor and be highly committed to deliver high quality results in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment
  • Maintain accurate, timely and detailed records of work
  • Communicate results and issues with lab members and customers with clarity and precision, both verbally and in writing in a timely fashion
  • General lab maintenance including instrument maintenance and supply ordering
Job Requirements:
  • BS/MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline with 1+ year of relevant laboratory experience
  • Understanding of NGS technologies and applications including sample preparation, library construction, sequencing, QC, and data interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with cell biological and molecular techniques including cell culture, nucleic acid isolation and nucleic acid QC and quantitation (Bioanalyzer, qPCR, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with some of NGS techniques and platforms (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, amplicon seq, 10x Genomics, Illumina NGS, PacBio, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with operating 10x Chromium and Illumina sequencers and interpreting sequencing QC metrics is a plus but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new concepts and skills
  • Highly analytical with problem-solving skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team ethic with a customer service approach
