Position Definition:
NCIRE- The Veterans Health Research Institute, affiliated with UCSF/SFVA Orthopedic Translational Research lab, has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to study genetic/cellular therapy for muscle dystrophy.
Essential Functions:
- Performing research surgical procedures related to muscle injury in rodent animals.
- Administering pharmacological and cellular treatment for animals with muscle dystrophy/injuries.
- Performing in vitro culture of cells and explant tissues.
- Performing tissue harvesting, histology, and immunohistochemistry.
- Analyze gene expression with PCR, sequencing and other methods.
- Isolating stem cells from muscle and other tissue with fluorescence-activated cells sorting (FACS) or other methods.
- Editing/modifying muscle cell gene expression with CRISPR and other methods.
- Measuring muscle function in vivo and ex vivo.
- Writing of periodical project reports and manuscripts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- PhD degree in biology or related science major.
- Ability of performing research project independently with minimum supervision.
- Solid genetics and cell biology scientific knowledge and techniques such as gene cloning, PCR, sequencing, stem cell culture, transfection.
- Previous experience with CRISPR, gene editing and iPS is preferred.
- Previous experience with mouse surgery/experiment is preferred.
- Previous experience with musculoskeletal tissue histology is preferable
