The Bonding and Attunement in Neuropsychiatric Disorders (BAND) Lab (http://bandlab.ucsf.edu/), jointly affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVA), is looking to hire a research psychiatrist to join our team and work on multiple pharmacological trials. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to further develop a research career as a member of an active research group. The position is a 75% psychiatrist position at the SFVA. This effort is protected for research activities. We have two years of funding and the possibility of extension.

About BAND Lab: We believe the key to mental health and well-being starts with strong relationships. Our mission is to develop novel pharmacological and psychological interventions for mental illness that enable patients to strengthen their connections to other people and the world. Our work has primarily focused on understanding the psychological, behavioral, physiological, and neural effects of administration of the neuropeptide oxytocin across multiple psychiatric illnesses including schizophrenia, depression, and substance use disorder. This work led us to hypothesize that pharmacological treatments that affect social processes could be paired with psychosocial treatments to possibly achieve synergistically enhanced outcomes. Therefore, with substantial philanthropic support, we are now developing several studies combining novel psychopharmacological interventions with psychotherapy to target difficult to treat psychiatric conditions including depression in bipolar affective disorder, existential distress in neurodegenerative disorders, and demoralization in chronic pain disorders.

In support of this goal, we are looking to recruit an exceptional faculty member with a strong record and potential for conducting outstanding relevant clinical and translational research. Start dates are variable and this position will be filled in a rank and series commensurate with experience. Initially, work will be remote. Once in-person clinical research activities at UCSF and the SFVA resume, this position will require on-site work.
