The Gladstone Institute of Virology is recruiting a Research Associate (I, II, III or Sr.) to contribute cell biology and molecular biology skills for ongoing virology research.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments relevant to viral diagnostic assay development using CRISPR-Cas technology (e.g. assays in 96-well or 384-well plate format using standard plate readers, preparation of buffers and solutions, etc.)
  • Culture cell lines and primary cells (e.g. 3D organoids) to support and execute various virology assays (e.g. infection studies, RNA and protein analysis including extraction, RT-qPCR and Western blot, FACS, staining and imaging using microscopes, etc.)
  • Design and execute experiments, interpret results, maintain excellent records, and routinely present project updates
  • Work independently and collaboratively to complete experiments and research projects  
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of CRISPR/Cas technology and skills
  • Experience with infectious diseases and/or virology

Job Requirements: 
  • BS or BA or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
  • 1+ years of hands-on lab experience (may include any relevant laboratory coursework as part of undergraduate/masters curriculum)
  • Strong foundation in general cell biology and molecular biology techniques in a BSL-2 laboratory
  • Outstanding communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask with effective time management
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GraphPad Prism
