Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE) is the leading nonprofit research institute in the United States devoted to advancing Veterans health research. NCIRE is part of one of the world’s most dedicated and successful Veterans care communities, pioneering new treatments and understandings of military medicine and care. Along with our partners at the San Francisco VA Health Care System and the University of California, San Francisco, we are working to discover and develop effective, safe, and practical treatments for military injuries and diseases affecting Veterans. Through new technologies, novel scientific insights, and international clinical collaborations, we strive to set a new standard of health care research for Veterans and military personnel.
The Cardiac Biomechanics Lab at San Francisco VA Medical Center and UCSF is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will work on numerical simulation of aortic biomechanics, with a focus on understanding the aortic biomechanics and hemodynamics under various physiological and pathological conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement patient-specific numerical models of aorta or other parts of the cardiovascular system.
- Perform finite element analysis to investigate the biomechanics of the aorta under different physiological and pathological conditions.
- Analyze and interpret simulation results to gain insights into the role of aortic biomechanics in the progression of aortic disease as well as the diagnosis and treatment of aortic disease.
- Collaborate with experimentalists and clinicians to integrate simulation results with experimental data and clinical observations.
- Write manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and present research findings at scientific conferences.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in medical image analysis, numerical simulation and finite element analysis and/or fluid structure interaction.
- Knowledge and experience in machine learning a plus
- Familiarity with biomechanics and cardiovascular physiology.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The Cardiac Biomechanics Lab is a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary research group with a strong focus on integrated clinical and biomechanical research, where expertise from radiology, cardiology, cardiac surgery and bioengineering are combined together to improve outcome for patients with cardiovascular disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of scientists and clinicians, and to collaborate with other research groups at UCSF and the San Francisco VA Medical Center.
