Alameda County PUBLIC HEALTH’s COVID Mitigation & Prevention Services is recruiting for temporary REGISTERED NURSES

 

RN II  $54.49 - $67.24 Hourly

RN III  $57.42 - $70.70 Hourly

Temporary Assignments: Assignments vary in duration depending on the needs of the department. An assignment may end at any time. To obtain a regular position, the appointee will need to compete successfully in a County Exam when open.

 

COVID Mitigation & Prevention Services

REGISTERED NURSE II

  • Participates in the COVID vaccination operations, including points of dispensing (POD), home vaccination, and other vaccination settings (e.g., schools, homeless shelters, or correctional facilities).
  • Functions in the roles of vaccinator, vaccine manager (preparing vaccine), post-vaccination observation, cold chain management, and health educator.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in preparing and administering vaccines, including intramuscular injections, to adults and children.
  • Registers clients and documents vaccination using Primary (electronic health records system), paper records, and the California Immunization Registry (CAIR).
  • Maintains current knowledge of COVID and COVID vaccine-related guidance and science.
  • Utilizes current COVID vaccine guidance, protocols, policies, procedures, workflows, and Job Action Sheets.
  • Participates in redistributing COVID vaccine, including technical assistance (basic vaccine education of clinical providers) and quality assurance, to community providers (e.g., pharmacies, primary care providers, hospitals).
  • Approaches and provides culturally competent care to Hispanic and Latinx and African American and Black communities.
  • Assists with administrative and clerical duties supporting clinical operations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the Registered Nurse II classification.

 

REGISTERED NURSE III

  • Assists in the clinical oversight of COVID vaccination operations, including points of dispensing (POD), home vaccination, and other vaccination settings (e.g., schools, homeless shelters, or correctional facilities).
  • Develops and updates clinical COVID vaccination materials, protocols, workflows, procedures, Job Action Sheets, and presentations, and shares information with Community Vaccination Unit staff.
  • Coordinates resources with Clinical Team Manager, Vaccine Manager/Coordinator, Lead Clinicians, Logistics Coordinator, Personnel Coordinator, Data Platform Coordinator, and Community Vaccination Unit Operations Manager and Director to ensure smooth clinical operations.
  • Participates in COVID vaccination planning and meetings.
  • Assists with training of clinical personnel.
  • Participates in the job performance evaluation process.
  • Serves as vaccination clinician (including cold chain, vaccine management, vaccine administration, and post-vaccination observation responsibilities) at PODs, home vaccination, and other vaccination settings.
  • Acts as POD Clinical Group Supervisor.
  • Functions as a backup POD Site Manager.
  • Provides education and applies quality control procedures during vaccine redistribution amongst healthcare partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the Registered Nurse III classification.

 

ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION

  • The RN II and RN III assignments are located in our Community Vaccination Unit as part of the Clinical Team and will report to the Clinical Team Manager. The assignments are part of the County’s COVID-19 response.
  • The assignments are located in our San Leandro office as well as other assigned community sites in Alameda County.
  • The work shift is Tuesday- Saturday from 8:30-5pm.

Job Requirements: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE: Possession of a current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Possession of a current and valid Public Health Nurse (PHN) Certificate issued by the State of California.

REGISTERED NURSE II

EXPERIENCE:  Equivalent of one year of full-time recent experience with the last five years at a comparable level as a Registered Nurse in a clinical and/or public health setting.

REGISTERED NURSE III

EXPERIENCE:  Equivalent of three years of full-time, recent nursing experience within the past 5 years, at a level of, or higher than, the Alameda County class of Registered Nurse II in a clinical and/or public health setting.
