$72,238.40 - $106,600.00 Annually

The PROGRAM
The Alameda County Public Health Department’s (ACPHD) DIABETES PROGRAM began in 2001, and is an American Diabetes Association (ADA) Recognized Education Program providing diabetes education and support groups for over 20 years. Most recently, the ACPHD Diabetes Program won the National Association of Counties Health Award for 2020.
The Diabetes Program serves all of Alameda County and meets people where they live to ensure access to all. Classes are provided all over the County, including community centers, churches, and senior. Currently, due to COVID, the Diabetes Program is working to establish virtual classes until in-person classes can resume.
The Diabetes Program is currently working on a grant that was received from the Merck Foundation. As a part of the Grant, the Diabetes Program is working with two community clinics to assist in training peer educators, help the clinics to become ADA Recognized and Project Dulce licensed, and to provide Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support within the clinics. This position will work with the clinics to provide support to continue these services and supported education. The grant also provides for cooking classes and physical activity within the clinics and this position will support those activities as well.

The POSITION
Program Specialists provide program planning, technical assistance, review and evaluation functions to direct client service delivery programs where such services are provided by community-based organizations (CBO's), contract service providers and/or County staff in a wide variety of service areas; act as County liaison with service providers and funding sources and ensure that program regulations and procedures are followed; and to perform other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: The equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university (180 quarter units or 120 semester units) with major coursework in, business or public administration, a social science or a field related to the program area, such as nutrition and dietetics, to which assigned.
(Additional experience as outlined below may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.) AND,
EXPERIENCE:
The equivalent to three years of full-time professional-level or supervisory work in the direct delivery of services to clients or the oversight of such services in the program area to which assigned, one year of which must have included program planning and evaluation, or in program administration, contract negotiations, grants management and similar financial services. SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master’s degree in public administration, social science or a related field to the program area, such as nutrition and dietetics, to which assigned from an accredited college or university, may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, this position requires applicants to possess licensure as a Registered Dietitian.
- A certification from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) as a Certified Diabetes Educator, a plus!
- Fluency in Spanish, a plus! This position will be the sole provider for the Spanish speaking community.
***Although not required, it is helpful if the candidate has worked in an American Diabetes Association (ADA) Recognized program and understands how it functions and the requirements to maintain Recognition.
