Agilent Research Laboratories is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and skilled Data Engineer to be part of an innovative, multidisciplinary team developing next generation technologies for life science research and diagnostics. The Agilent Laboratories computational team focuses on informatics, algorithmic, statistical and visualization aspects of technologies and systems under development. The focus of this position will be developing efficient data collection, data aggregation, data cleaning and data management methods to enable novel data-driven workflows that significantly improve the performance and capabilities of analytical laboratories in life sciences research and diagnostics. We are seeking a researcher with a strong working knowledge of computer science, experience using various structured and unstructured databases, understanding of cloud technologies and excellent coding skills. The successful candidate will help Agilent Laboratories continue its track record of powering the growth of Agilent Technologies through breakthrough science and technology. 

 

As part of this effort, the successful candidate will:

 

  • In collaboration with other members of the team, use expertise in data engineering and data management to investigate, define, develop and apply state of the art data collection and streaming approaches, data analytics and data visualization tools to significantly enhance the performance and capabilities of analytical laboratory and measurement instrumentation
  • Communicate progress, results, challenges and opportunities to management and technical leadership, to selected external organizations, including collaborators, and, when appropriate, to the general scientific community via presentations at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications
Job Requirements: 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Master's or other university degrees in computer science, data science or other relevant fields
  • Fluency in one or more common programming languages such as Java, C# or C++
  • Expertise in programming languages commonly used for data science, such as Python or R
  • Excellence and expertise in data management
  • Excellence and expertise in working with, parsing, and cleaning diverse data sources
  • Hands-on experience with traditional relational databases, such as Oracle, SQL Server or Postgres
  • Experience with large scale data storage platforms such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Redshift, DynamoDB, Spanner, or BigTable
  • Hands-on experience with scalable programming environments such as Hadoop or Spark
  • Hands-on experience with working with Cloud technologies, including AWS
  • Practical understanding of networking
  • Self-motivated researcher able to work from broad objectives, detailed oriented and with strong problem-solving skill
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Good understanding of analytical laboratory instrumentation
  • Understanding of measurement technologies underlying Agilent products
  • Experience in analyzing high volume experimental measurement data
  • Passion for developing effective data visualizations
  • Experience with JavaScript and browser-based interface frameworks such as React or Angular
  • Experience with other scalable, state-of-the-art data exploration and visualization tools
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning platform, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
  • Hands-on experience and solid understanding of machine learning
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics Experience with analyzing real-time sensor data
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing
  • Experience developing production software in a corporate environment or delivering research prototypes to such organizations
