Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE) is the leading nonprofit research institute in the United States devoted to advancing Veterans health research. Through new technologies, novel scientific insights, and international clinical collaborations, we strive to set a new standard of health care research for Veterans and military personnel.
Position Definition:
The purpose of the VALOR QI (Veteran Affairs Lipid Optimization Reimagined Quality Improvement) Initiative is to develop and implement a novel lipid optimization program focused on Veterans at high risk of Cardiovascular (CV) events at selected VA medical centers including the San Francisco VA medical center. VALOR-QI will comprehensively assess potential barriers and enabling factors for: 1) veterans, 2) health care practitioners treating Veterans, and 3) the VA Healthcare System in the management of CV disease. This program provides support for a health coach starting from March 2023 and lasts until September 2025.
Essential Functions:
- Engage with patients and provide education/coaching around lipid control and lipid lowering therapies
- Follow-up with patients about prescription pickups, appointments, and labs
- Interact with healthcare providers and communicate relevant information about patients enrolled in the program
- Maintain a database of patients enrolled in program and their outcomes
- Participate in a Learning Collaborative facilitated by the AHA
- Identify best practices and share learnings with other VALOR-QI sites and other health coaches
- Help continually think of ways to improve the program
- Opportunities to publish/share results at national conferences are available if individual is interested
Job Requirements:
- At least a bachelor level education
- Healthcare background is helpful but not required. If you don’t know about lipid control that’s ok as long as you’re open to learning.
- Professional writing, reporting, and excellent communication skills

The hourly range for this position is $27.49 - $39.34.
