Postdoctoral Traineeship in Substance Use Disorders Treatment and Services

Research Training Program

University of California, San Francisco

The University of California, San Francisco is accepting applications to its NIDA-funded two-year postdoctoral research training program, for one open trainee position starting either in the summer or early fall of 2025.

Our program is one of the few that trains scientists in treatment and services research. Scholars work with a preceptor to design and implement studies on treatment of substance use disorders (SUD), including alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, alcohol, opioids, and other substances. Scholars also select a specific area of focus for independent research. Current research interests of faculty include trials of efficacy and effectiveness of psychosocial and pharmacologic SUD treatment, including:

  1. Addressing health disparities and advancing health equity
  2. Integration of SUD research in health care systems
  3. Technology-based SUD intervention research
  4. Innovative SUD/HIV treatment, prevention, and services research
  5. Emerging areas including innovative therapeutics and delivery models

A variety of university-affiliated and community substance use treatment programs are available as research sites. These include inpatient- and outpatient-setting programs that treat dependence on stimulants, cannabis, nicotine, alcohol, and opioids. Our training program encourages close research involvement with a preceptor, and involvement in selected classes, seminars, and grant preparation. For further information, please contact either Derek Satre, PhD, at [email protected] or Janice Tsoh, PhD, at [email protected].

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, beginning November 1, 2024.
