The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a world-class biomedical research institution dedicated to improving health worldwide. A postdoctoral position in the field of bioinformatics/statistical genetics is available in the Liao Laboratory (https://liaolab.ucsf.edu) within the UCSF Department of Dermatology. The focus of the research is the analysis of large-scale human genomic and genetic datasets to understand the pathogenesis of cutaneous inflammatory diseases, identify novel predictive biomarkers, and develop curative therapies. The Liao lab participates in the NIH Accelerating Medicines Partnership (https://www.niams.nih.gov/grants-funding/niams-supported-research-programs/accelerating-medicines-partnership-amp) and collaborates closely with both academia and industry to generate rich genetic and immune cell datasets.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary research team (clinical, genetics, immunology, bioinformatics) to perform data analyses and implement statistical methods for analysis of genetic and immune datasets. The applicant will play a major role in determining new research directions and in drafting manuscripts and presenting results at professional meetings. The Liao Lab has published in journals such as Science, Nature Genetics, Science Immunology, Nature Communications, PLoS Genetics, American Journal of Human Genetics, and PNAS

Job Requirements:

We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D., M.D., (or equivalent) with training in bioinformatics, statistical genetics, computer science, computational biology, or a closely related field. The ideal applicant will have experience in analysis of single cell RNA-sequencing data, spatial transcriptomics, genome-wide association studies, next generation sequencing data, and machine learning. Experience in molecular biology or immunology is desirable.

This position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong track record of first author publications. Expertise in statistical and computational methods for complex, high-dimensional data is required. We seek a candidate with strong computer programming and scripting skills. The incumbent will be expected to work independently to complete data analysis.

UCSF is located in the highly diverse metropolitan area of San Francisco with spectacular culinary, cultural, and outdoor recreational opportunities. We offer competitive salaries and benefits.
