Several projects and opportunities are available including the general themes of: understanding how the inflammatory microenvironment and other external factors influences progression, determining the how the microenvironment drives genomic evolution, further understanding the ‘omic’ makeup of Barrett’s esophagus and gastric metaplasia, using this genomic knowledge to understand how these alterations cause progression into invasive cancer, and using the above information to build biomarker assays for better risk stratification and treatment algorithms. In addition, the person who fills this position will be highly encouraged to explore their own new ideas.

The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with the laboratory PI, Matthew Stachler, as well as the many collaborators within and external to UCSF and help direct the research specialists and technicians within the lab. They will be encouraged to present at scientific conferences and apply for funding opportunities when appropriate.

Some of the many technologies/techniques we utilize within laboratory include: a wide variety of omic technologies (single cell DNA and RNA seq, methylation, spatially defined transcriptome analysis, and others), highly multiplex imaging, primary human cell culture/models, and a murine model of gastroesophageal metaplasia.
