Responsibilities:
- Design, validate, and apply bioinformatics and statistical tools to enable independent and integrated analyses and interpretation of shotgun metagenomic, metabolomic, transcriptomic, immunologic and clinical data.
- Gather feedback and requirements to develop bioinformatic and biostatistical tools for analyses of multiple, multi-dimensional datasets
- Present updates and findings at group meetings and at scientific meetings, and lead manuscript preparation for publication in in peer-reviewed journals
- Contribute to research as part of a large multidisciplinary team
- Recent Ph.D. (within the last 3 years) in mathematics, bioinformatics, statistics, microbial ecology or a related discipline
- Knowledge and understanding of bioinformatics tools for metagenomic assembly, genome binning and strain-level genome reconstruction
- Knowledge and understanding of bioinformatics tools for transcriptomic (RNASeq) analyses
- Expertise in a scripting language (Perl, Python) is required - experience with relational databases, R, and other Unix tools is preferred
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques an advantage

Additional Information:
- These are full-time, 3-year, postdoctoral appointments with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance and continuing availability of funds.
- Salary is dependent on years of post-graduate experience
- Position will be based at the Parnassus Campus of the University of California San Francisco.
