The Aghi lab is looking for postdoctoral fellows to assist us in conducting studies that will be part of two recently funded R01 grants that aim to define mechanisms of glioblastoma invasion and angiogenesis, mechanisms of glioblastoma cell survival, and mechanisms of glioblastoma resistance to treatments, including radiation and anti-angiogenic therapy. UCSF standards (which exceed those of the NIH) will be used to set salary. Qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule interviews, which must be in person in San Francisco before the position can be offered. The start date is negotiable. The appointment is subject to an annual renewal to ensure that there is mutual satisfaction.
Requirements are: (1) recently earned MD and/or PhD degree(s) in areas of the biological sciences relevant to this research (such as biochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular biology, immunology); (2) a strong background in areas such as cell biology, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, stem cell biology, protein analysis, and rodent work, with successful publications in these areas written by the applicant and published in reputable peer reviewed journals; (3) the ability to write competitive scientific grants that will procure funding for the applicant during the postdoctoral fellowship and allow the candidate to transition to independent positions as academic faculty or within industry after this fellowship; (4) the ability to work long and flexible hours in order to accomplish these goals; (5) fluency in English and the interpersonal skills required to teach junior members of the laboratory. Experience in cancer bioinformatics, CRISPR library screens, or small molecule screens is strongly desired.
