This position will focus on: Clinical interventions and trials in hospitalized patients with malnutrition; leadership training in adolescent health; and clinical nutrition patient care and program development  

This is a two-year, 100% postdoctoral appointment, with an option for a third year.

Time range: The position Is funded for two years full-time (100% time) and may be extended to a third year through grant funding. 

Under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Andrea Garber you will: Learn to conduct multi-site, NIH-funded studies of refeeding, body composition and microbiome in youth with malnutrition secondary to anorexia nervosa and atypical anorexia nervosa. Training will include every aspect from managing IRB and other study records, enrolling and following participants, creating data systems and performing data analysis. Additionally, the postdoctoral candidate will receive Leadership Education in Adolescent Health training, which includes training in clinical care for patients with eating disorders as well as interdisciplinary clinical training, coursework and leadership/policy opportunities. As part of Garber’s clinical research group, the postdoctoral researcher will work have the opportunity to work with numerous other faculty collaborators and eventually help to oversee and provide mentorship for the Clinical Research Coordinators and graduate students who ensure the day-to-day working operations of the trials, including protocol adherence, data collection and entry, conducting study visits, tracking participants. Graduate-level courses in biostatistics and clinical trials are available. The postdoctoral candidate will participate in scientific writing, including literature reviews, data assimilation and grant writing and will develop their own research questions to pursue and publish. 

Desirable roles: Opportunity to work with interdisciplinary research and clinical team including nutrition, medicine, psychology, psychiatry, biostatistics, nursing and social work. Collaborators within UCSF Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, projects in Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine, UCSF Nutrition and Obesity Research Consortium. Outside of UCSF, opportunities to collaborate with Stanford University, University of Hawaii, Pennington Biomedical Center, and University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Job Requirements: 

Required: Ph.D. in Nutrition, Metabolic Biology or related field and Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD-eligible as per the Commission of Registered Dieticians: https://www.cdrnet.org/RDNeligibility. Demonstrated publication record and biostatistical skills. Strong spoken and written communication skills for diverse audiences. Knowledge of statistical software such as STATA, SAS, and/or R; proficiency with Excel. Enthusiasm, adaptability, and ability to work flexible hours. Commitment to in-person work in clinical settings (including hospital and outpatient clinics) with diverse patients, families and transdisciplinary team members. 

Preferred: Experience in clinical care, settings and systems. Knowledge of clinical systems including electronic medical records (EPIC preferred), Qualtrics, OnCore and other clinical trials management systems. Spanish-language proficiency.
