Who We Are:

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.  Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science, and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

Position Description:

Calico Life Sciences is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary protein science team with a focus on characterizing protein targets relevant to human aging and oncology. We seek a highly motivated individual who is passionate about pursuing basic research in the field of cellular signaling mediated by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) on the cell surface. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing comprehensive approaches to unravel the complexities of GPCR signaling, including the investigation of how individual and dimerized GPCRs influence G proteins. We anticipate the successful candidate will work closely with computational modeling scientists, protein biochemists and structural biologists in the group. Additionally, this is an outstanding opportunity to work closely with scientists from the Calico oncology and machine learning teams to perform groundbreaking research in the area of GPCR signaling. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, work autonomously with a variety of experimental techniques, and be comfortable presenting results to cross-functional teams.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD in biochemistry, structural biology, or related discipline
  • Experience with GPCR related biochemistry and structural biology studies
  • Track record of high-profile publications
  • Strong expertise with recombinant protein expression with mammalian, insect and bacteria cells
  • Hands-on experience with membrane protein purification
  • Experience with GPCR nanodisc reconstitution
  • Strong expertise with investigating protein-protein interactions using SPR, BLI, SEC, FRET, etc and proficiency with GPCR related activity assays
  • Experience in experimental structural biology solutions for GPCRs, including cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography
  • Proficient in structure determination and analysis softwares, including Phenix, COOT, Chimera, Pymol etc.
  • Self-motivated, possessing strong teamwork skills, able to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week

Preferred:

  • Experience with computational modeling and machine learning

The estimated base salary for this role is $90,000.
