Position: Postdoctoral Fellow

Description:  A Postdoctoral Research Opportunity is available at the University of California, San Francisco, in the laboratory of Marina Sirota.

The laboratory of Dr. Marina Sirota at UCSF is seeking a highly motivated investigator to develop and study novel approaches in translational bioinformatics, or the application of analytic and interpretive methods to optimize the transformation of genomic and clinical data into precision medicine. We are currently recruiting investigators interested in using omics and integrative approaches in the context of computational biomarker and drug discovery across the lifespan with a specific focus on the role of the immune system in disease. Clinical applications include pregnancy outcomes such as preterm birth, endometriosis and neurodegeneration. Strong problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and the ability to build new software tools as needed are required. Applicants must possess good communication skills and be fluent in both spoken and written English. A background in molecular biology or medicine or pharmacology will be a strong plus. Prior experience with sequencing, genetic, microarray, drug, or clinical databases, text-mining, knowledge representation, or parallel computing platforms is a plus. This exciting work will be guided by multidisciplinary collaborations with top scientists in neonatology, genetics, environmental science, immunology and microbiome research at UCSF. The fellow will take a lead role in key aspects of projects and will need strong motivation, intellectual independence and an impeccable work ethic.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and integrate omics data, including genotyping, sequencing, microbiome, RNA-Seq data as well as single cell measurements.

  • Develop and apply methods and software to improve analysis of multi-omics data and integration.

  • Integrate genetic data with public datasets, biologic knowledge and clinical data.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:

  • Outstanding programming skills in multiple languages, such as R, Perl, Python and Unix shell scripting.

  • Excellent track record of analyzing omics and/or clinical data.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistics, bioinformatics concepts, methods.

  • Strong attention to detail and solid analytical skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Documented track record of scientific achievement.

Education:

PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, cancer biology or a related field.
