Growing East Coast Law Firm with West Coast presence is actively seeking a Technology Specialist or Patent Agent in their Intellectual Property Life Science Practice. The Firm will consider remote work from the West Coast for superior candidates.  This position requires the ability to think critically, to understand new technologies quickly, to work collaboratively and to write well.  Candidates will preferably have some patent drafting and prosecution experience.  Responsibilities will include drafting patent applications and prosecution of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and patent offices around the world.  Candidates will preferably be registered to practice before the USPTO or be willing to sit for the registration exam.  All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter, resume, graduate and college transcript(s).  In this position, you will be trained to draft patent applications and to conduct prosecution before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in connection with sophisticated technologies in the life sciences industry, with particular focus on translational medicine.

Competitive Salary and Excellent Benefits are to be included with this employment opportunity. A salary range of $75,000 – $90,000 a year for qualified, entry-level employees for this role dependent upon prior experience, familiarity with patent law, registration with the USPTO and background in the chemical sciences.

Job Requirements: 
  • Entry level candidates as well as experienced agents are welcome to apply.
  • Background in Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology, or Biotechnology; advanced degree required; Ph.D., especially in Organic Chemistry, strongly preferred. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, superior academic background.
  • Good judgment, Resourcefulness, Strong work ethic are traits of successful candidates.
  • USPTO Registration or Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Strong preference for candidate with familiarity of small molecule and macromolecule structure searching, (e.g. SciFinder, CAS Registry and GenBank databases).
