Eligibility: Health professional students (preferably a first-year medical student) eligible for federal work-study.

Compensation: $22 an hour; Will not exceed $4,000 in work study funds for a 12-month period

Time commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week during the academic year (all of the work can be done remotely due to Covid)

We are seeking a 3-5 hours/week Career Peer Advisor Liaison (preferably a first year medical student) to work under the general direction of UCSF's Office of Career and Professional Development Health Careers Program Director, Anna Correa, and their SOM Career Peer Lead Advisor, MS4- Hailey Juszczak. The Career Peer Advisor Liaison will have two main roles:

  1. Advising: (2 hours a week) Holding two hours of CV/Resume/Cover Letter advising weekly for health professional students in the evening or weekend remotely. Career Peer Advisor Liaisons will receive extensive training on application materials review and advising for this.
  2. Outreach: (1 hour a week) Actively working with our Outreach and Technology Specialist and the Health Program Director to concept, create and execute your class newsletter and support outreach campaigns for brand awareness and services to health professional students. We’re looking for outgoing students with creative ideas about how to engage their colleagues using fun, technology driven approaches. Outreach may also involve delivering CV and Cover Letter programs for RCOs in the evenings in collaboration with a Career Peer Lead.
Job Requirements: 
  • Responsiveness and ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to respond to correspondence in a timely manner and follow up proactively
  • A reliable and stable internet connection in order to advise remotely and respond to requests in a timely manner
  • Familiarity with health professional needs and training
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects effectively and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral skills, with an ability to work in teams
  • High personal motivation, self-management, and an ability to work under supervision as well as independently
  • Ability to develop engaging and informative visuals, with attention to details
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs and the capacity and willingness to quickly learn new software (including Acuity Scheduling, Drupal, Constant Contact, Qualtrics)

Preferred:

  • Experience using UCSF’s online tools such as the Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) and Qualtrics
  • Interest in exploring different ways to use technology to engage your fellow classmates
