SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Physician Department Leader for OB/GYN is in charge with providing leadership and management in all areas relating to the clinical operations of the Medicine Department in general and to a specifically assigned clinic in particular. He/She is responsible for recommending and implementing clinical policies and procedures, working with Administration and Physician Site Leads to ensure proper supervising of the clinical staff in their medical, nursing, and administrative duties, ensuring continuous quality improvement in all clinical activities, and acting as an integral part of the health center’s management team as a whole.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Provides primary medical care to all patients in accordance with the physician’s medical specialty.
  • Develops a plan of care for each patient, including: complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary.
  • Refers NEMS patients for hospitalization when necessary.
  • Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
  • Confers with consulting physicians, nurse, patients, and patient’s families concerning treatment and care of patients.
  • Refers those cases which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided.
  • Directly and/or indirectly manages the clinical staff and the resources relating to the OB/GYN Department in general and to the assigned clinic site in particular.
  • Assists the Associate Medical Director in leading the community health center’s recruiting efforts for all clinical staff including physicians, mid-level providers, and allied health personnel.
  • Provides for a clear and effective flow of information between the clinical staff and the management team by facilitating monthly department meetings.
  • Accountable for the overall functioning of the team and will work in partnership with team members, other team leaders, and the department management to ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Participates with the Associate Medical Director and Medical Director as an integral part of the management team of the community health center for short term & long term planning as well as daily operations.
  • Assists in the training of para-professional and non-medical personnel.
  • Provides guidance to other health team members in the development of health education materials and programs for patients and the community at large.
  • Direct supervision of a department involving responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and personnel. Responsible for carrying out supervisory/managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Direct supervision of a department involving responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and personnel. Job Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • Board-eligible or Board-certified in Obstetrics or Gynecology.
  • Current documentation of Basic Life Support is required.

LANGUAGE:

  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) preferred.
  • Fluent in other languages are an asset.
