JOB PURPOSE

  • Responsible for the quality of hyperbaric services provided to the LGBTQ community, and is accountable to the Center Director Collaborative MD, CCO and the CEO.  Performs initial evaluations, and follow up examinations, on patients referred to the hyperbaric department, as well as supervising the hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments.  Supervises performance of and services provided by other medical providers and the Practice Manager.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform history and physical examinations on patients referred to the department;
  • Perform follow up examinations on patients currently receiving treatment in the department;
  • Supervise the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments (“HBOT”) provided to patients;
  • Review patient daily assessments including vital signs, taken by hyperbaric technicians, prior to treatment, and clear or not clear patient for HBOT accordingly, based on clinical guidelines;
  • Review daily assessments including vital signs, taken by hyperbaric technicians, after treatment, and clear or not clear patients for discharge from department accordingly, based on clinical guidelines;
  • Perform patient evaluation on any patient who had an aborted dive, and address accordingly, based on clinical findings;
  • Perform patient evaluation on any patient who experiences a medical emergency while in the department, and coordinate emergency medical care accordingly, including transport to emergency department, as indicated;
  • Act as panel technician or chamber technician during patient HBOT, as needed;
  • Educate patients about their medical condition and the benefits of HBOT, and encourage patient compliance with their treatment program;
  • Communicate with referring providers on the status of their referred patients, updating them on patient progress in healing, or lack of healing, accordingly;
  • Participate in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs of MHC;
  • Provide assistance and support in the growth of the practice, as related to referral provider education, educational institutions in the service area, and other programs dedicated to the growth of the practice, as directed;
  • Maintain professional relationship with center staff;
  • Maintain professional relationship with MHC administration and staff;
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, NFPA, DOL, CMS and commercial payers,
  • Maintains compliance with all MHC quality assurance programs;
  • Supervises other staff, including administrative, clinical, and technical staff;
  • Participates in the recruitment of staff;
  • Provides guidance in training program of all center staff;
  • Provides ongoing education of all center staff;
  • Ensures ongoing and effective safe environment and safety program;
  • Supports and participates in clinical peer review program;
  • Ensures that required staffing requirements are met for a safe and effective program;
  • Designates a qualified provider to act in his/her absence.
  • Responsible for overall day to day operations of the center;
  • Perform other duties as directed;

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold an unrestricted nursing license as a Nurse Practitioner;
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification;
  • Hold unrestricted DEA license;
  • Maintain board certification in primary specialty;
  • Must successfully pass background check and drug screen;
  • Must successfully complete 40 hour online HBOT training course;
  • Must successfully complete MHC provider training course, to include proctored dives;
  • Must successfully be insured for malpractice insurance under MHC malpractice carrier;
  • Must successfully be credentialed by CMS and commercial payers;
  • Must successfully participate in quality assurance programs, as related to coding and documentation, medical necessity guidelines, and appropriateness of care;
  • Ability to document protected health care information in MHC EHR, eClinical Works;
  • Ability to use various software applications, such as MicroSoft Office Products, to include Word and Excel;
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, teaching, and administrative skills;
  • Working understanding of the regulations that govern the operation of a hyperbaric medicine facility;
  • Working understanding of the operation and safety associated with the hyperbaric chamber used at the facility;
  • Participate in professional organizations related to the practice of hyperbaric medicine, such as UHMS;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to function in hyperbaric chamber environment;
  • Must have full range of body motion;
  • Ability to move and/or transport patients to/from wheelchairs and treatment chairs;
  • Must be able to exert, lift and/or move a minimum of 50 lbs occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, in order to lift, carry, push, pull, grip or otherwise move objects, including the human body;
  • Other physical demands: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, bending, seeing,  climbing and digital dexterity and sensitivity;
