Salary: $39.82 - $47.59 Hourly; $3,185.97 - $3,807.53 Biweekly; $6,902.94 - $8,249.65 Monthly
- Oversees day to day network administration relative to personal computer (PC) based networks utilizing network operating systems, hosts, gateways, routers and switches, ATM and fast Ethernet.
- Identifies networking requirements and plans for additions and upgrades to network infrastructure related to hardware and software.
- Evaluates network hardware and software systems and maintains all network systems design and configuration data within a centralized database.
- Consults and advises departmental management on matters related to networks; and interacts with hardware/software vendors regarding departmental networking requirements.
- Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and makes recommendations relative to networking policies, procedures, and systems.
- Develops and implements controls and standards relative to maintaining network connectivity, security, reliability, and integrity, and monitors network activity to insure that the controls and standards are being effectively applied.
- Monitors, identifies and troubleshoots network system problems, makes recommendations and takes corrective action to resolve the problems.
- Confers and consults with centralized Information Technology Services on major installations, modifications or upgrades to the local area network (LAN) and/or wide area network (WAN) as it affects the County's wide area network (WAN).
- Reads and studies pertinent material in order to stay current with networking design, configuration, utilization, and administration, trends and technology.
- Provides technical advice to staff and trains staff, as appropriate in the effective and efficient utilization of the networks, within department and County-wide policy guidelines established by the Board of Supervisors.
- Writes procedures, memoranda, and instructional materials, relating to staff use of network systems; prepares correspondence and reports.
- Identifies hardware/software malfunctions and effects generally accepted corrective procedures, as appropriate.
- Dependent upon assignment, may be required to oversee the day to day network administration relative to accessing the mainframe, SNA server, SAA server, AS/400, routers and switches.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science or management information systems, AND four (4) years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes, systems analysis and design, systems support, management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area network's (LAN's) and wide area network's (WAN's) for a department or organization.
OR
Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or management information systems AND six (6) years experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques including systems analysis and design, systems support, management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area network's (LAN's) and wide area network's (WAN's) for a department or organization.
OR
Completion of an accredited technical or vocational training program in computer science, computer office automation technology, computer systems technology or a closely related field AND six (6) years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes systems analysis and design, systems support, management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LAN's) and wide area networks (WAN's) for a department or organization.
OR
Two (2) years of experience as a Local Area Network Systems Administrator in the Kern County classification system.
OR
Eight (8) years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes systems analysis and design, systems support, management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LAN's) and wide area networks (WAN's) for a department or organization.
Experience must include work with network operating systems, routers, Web Servers, Firewalls, OSI Model, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, DHCP, NAT and Gateways. Experience with UNIX is desirable. Possession of vendor specific certification, such as Novell Certified Netware Engineer (CNE) or Microsoft (MCSE) Certificate is desirable.
Qualifying experience must have been within the last eight (8) years.
