Minutia is a start-up working on developing insulin producing cell transplants. They are seeking a Senior Scientist in support of early to late phase development. The candidate will have an integral role in shaping the scientific efforts and the culture at the company, and will get the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways.

The selected candidate will design and conduct experiments, perform data analyses, and manage research activities within the group. Expertise will be needed in the areas of human stem cell growth (particularly induced pluripotent stem cells), characterization of stem cell-derived organoids in vitro and in small animal models (hormone secretion, flow sorting and analysis, immunostaining of organoid grafts, epifluorescence, confocal and 2-photon microscopy), and physiological and metabolic analyses in animal models of transplantation. Experience in rodent models of diabetes and differentiating human stem cells into the pancreatic/endocrine lineage is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Growing, differentiating, and analyzing cell products from human stem cells including embryonic and pluripotent stem cells
  • Working closely with the cell therapy team to generate organoids for transplantation into animal models of diabetes; carrying out downstream analyses on the recipients to assess function of grafts
  • Troubleshooting in vitro and in vivo assays for cell function and hormone secretion in collaboration with the team
  • Experience with immune cell signaling pathways governing immune response, proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation is a plus
  • Designing, coordinating, and executing in vitro and in vivo transplantation-focused experiments
  • Analyzing and interpreting data; communicating the results to the entire team
  • Keeping detailed, organized, and accurate records of experiments, results, and subsequent data analyses
  • Brainstorming with colleagues from other departments and contributing in areas that will benefit the company as a whole
  • Working in strong collaborations with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Willingness to learn new skills on the job and a desire to grow
  • Clear, candid, and frequent communications with the team
  • Up to date on primary literature
  • Experience writing technical reports is a plus
  • Understanding of regulatory guidelines for cell therapies is a plus
Job Requirements: 
  • Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, or a closely related field with 0-2 years of post graduate experience
  • 3+ years of experience in growing human stem cells including induced pluripotent cell (iPSC) expansion, maintenance, and differentiation
  • Experience in planning and executing in vitro functional assays to characterize differentiated cells including, but not limited to, hormone secretion assays, isolation of RNA, DNA and protein, ELISAs, proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, immunostaining, quantitative PCR, and cytokine/chemokine measurements
  • Experience in multi-parameter flow cytometry and data analysis
  • In vivo analysis of small animal models of transplantation (for e.g. physiological assays such as glucose challenge)
  • Established track record of problem solving and the ability to integrate new technologies into existing projects
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
