THE COMPANY

An exciting and well-funded new drug discovery company, incubated by Foresite Labs and based in South San Francisco, is building a proprietary discovery platform to systematically correlate human disease genomics with changes in protein homeostasis. Empowered by this understanding, the Company will design and develop novel drug candidates that target key drivers of inflammation and cancer.

We are creating and fostering a culture centered around our dual commitments to patients and employees. We believe that if we prioritize science and innovation, empower one another and have fun, we will significantly improve the lives of patients.  We seek to grow a diverse and inclusive team with individuals that are action-oriented and united by common values.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to be a part of our growing Lead Discovery team. In this role, you will play a key part in the discovery and advancement of small molecule drug candidates, using biochemical, biophysical, and structural approaches to identify and characterize diverse small molecules that modulate protein-protein interactions. You will use mechanistic and structural insights of protein targets to initiate and drive discovery approaches while working collaboratively with scientists from cross-functional disciplines. This role provides a unique opportunity to join a company at its earliest stages, interact broadly with project and platform development teams and senior management, and have an outsized impact on the direction and growth of the company and discovery platform.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conceptualization and implementation of small molecule discovery campaigns using cutting edge screening technologies to identify small molecules that modulate protein-protein interactions
  • Development and execution of biochemical and biophysical assays for measuring protein-protein, protein-ligand interactions, or enzymatic activity (TR-FRET, FP, SPR, DSF, MST, etc.)
  • Biophysical and structural characterization of screening hits to understand compound mechanism-of-action and potency, and provide a path for structure-based drug design campaigns
  • Cross-functional project team collaboration, including providing structure-activity relationship for small molecules in on-going compound optimization campaigns
  • Protein purification (construct design, expression, purification using AKTA systems, quality assessment)
  • Protein quality assessment and characterization using various assays (DSF, DLS, SEC-MALS, LCMS, SPR, etc.)
  • Presentation of research findings to senior management and other stakeholders within and outside the company
Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Biophysics, or related field with 3+ years of post-degree experience
  • Strong background with hands-on experience in interrogating and characterizing protein-protein or protein-ligand interactions
  • Expertise in general biochemical and molecular biology techniques including protein expression and purification
  • Experience in the development, optimization, and execution of various biochemical and biophysical binding and activity assays
  • Background in protein structure determination by X-ray crystallography preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in small molecule structure-based drug discovery to advance therapeutic programs is desirable
  • A strong track record of scientific accomplishment (publications, presentations, industry experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the fervent desire to work collaboratively within a team environment
