This is a paid internship at our South San Francisco headquarters. The program is for approximately 10-12 weeks beginning in late May/early June.

We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to join our Medical Affairs group at Cytokinetics. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance for a dynamic professional hands-on experience.  The Medical Affairs Intern will have a unique perspective into the benefits of working within a smaller biopharmaceutical company, high visibility within the company, and exposure to a broad range of Medical Affairs activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in cross-functional committees to understand how Medical Affairs supports multiple functions (including, Commercial Development, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, etc.).
  • Develop knowledge of disease, epidemiology, and market landscape in one or more of Cytokinetics’ therapeutic areas.
  • Apply medical and scientific knowledge, experience, and skills to support medical strategies for Cytokinetics’ compounds.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Medical Affairs projects and initiatives as follows:
  • Assist in the development of medical and scientific materials, e.g., literature repository, medical educational slide decks, etc., to be used by R&D personnel.
  • Participate in planning for coverage of national medical meetings. Support the collection, assessment, and communication of key medical insights from meetings to the broader Cytokinetics organization.
  • Contribute to the retrieval, analysis, and interpretation of scientific literature.
  • Assist in development of medical information documents such as standard response letters to external healthcare professionals and FAQs.
  • Contribute to other Medical Affairs projects as determined by business needs.
  • Develop an understanding of the structure of and roles within a biopharmaceutical company and of the drug development process.
  • Along with other Cytokinetic Summer Interns, develop a research project and present results through a poster session to the Cytokinetics organization.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate level student currently enrolled at an accredited institution in an advanced degree program in pharmacy, medicine, or other healthcare / life science curriculum with at least 1 or 2 years completed.
  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (B average).
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to maintain a high level of productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Must be deadline driven and have a high level of organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven ability to work well in teams and effectively manage multiple assignments and activities simultaneously.
  • Exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills including the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent ability in searching medical literature and interpreting scientific / clinical trial data.
  • A desire to be part of an innovative company aimed at improving the lives of people with serious diseases.
