POSITION SUMMARY

The Buck Institute is seeking a part-time Administrator to assist with its IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) functions. This individual will perform initial administrative reviews of protocols and addenda, working under quality assurance standards pertaining to the IACUC, complying with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Part-time (20 hours/week) with an eventual full-time opportunity
  • Annual compensation of $37,500 - $45,000 for 20 hours/week
  • Benefits eligible (health, dental, vision, life, disability & 401k with 5% employer match)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with government regulations regarding the protection of animals involved in research consistent with OLAW.
  • Generate reports for facility inspections and program reviews, maintain IACUC databases, and keep records/documentation for regulatory accreditation and licensure.
  • Serve as an alternate contact for researchers assisting with issues related to the preparation and submission of IACUC documents.
  • Process personnel addenda to ensure all requirements and training are completed for approval.
  • Coordinate with Institute labs and departments for animal use area inspections.
  • Represent the Institute in audits and inspections by regulators (USDA, CA Fish & Wildlife, AAALAC auditors).
  • Under the guidance of the IACUC Manager, conduct PAM activities in animal use areas, documenting findings and working with Principal Investigators (PIs) and labs to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain the IACUC calendar for meetings, semiannual facility inspections and program Reviews, and AAALAC site visits.
  • Together with the IACUC Manager and Chair, develop committee meeting agendas and materials, attend monthly IACUC meetings, take minutes, compile and send comments to PIs.
  • Develop training programs for faculty, students, staff, and approvers/committee members.
  • Streamline existing and develop new policies and procedures. Process and maintain online protocol submissions in Cayuse and provide guidance and training to users.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • BS in a scientific field (4+ years’ IACUC, live-animal, or compliance experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree)
  • 1+ years administrative experience AND 1+ years working in an animal program (familiar with the use of animals in research)
  • Familiarity with OLAW, USDA, AAALAC, and the “Guide” appreciated
