The Department of Oncology Research at Amgen is seeking a highly motivated graduate student to perform research studies aimed at elucidating new mechanisms of targeting the tumor microenvironment (TME) to reverse myeloid suppression and increase myeloid and T cell interactions for cancer immunotherapy.

The intern will help design, execute and communicate experiments related to discovery and validation of novel immune modulators for cancer immunotherapy. Specific responsibilities include planning and performing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and communicating results.

Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master’s program for a Masters internship OR a PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Currently pursuing PhD in immunology, myeloid cell biology, and/or tumor immunotherapy

Graduating between December 2020 and summer 2022

Laboratory experience: In vitro cell culture (primary cells and/or cell lines), multi-color (12+) flow cytometry, mouse handling, isolation of primary immune cell subsets (magnetic bead/MACS), in vitro differentiation/activation of immune cell subsets, immune cell phenotyping from mouse tissues (spleen, PB, tumor), ELISA, cell viability assays, and Western blot.

Critical thinker, ability to analyze, interpret and design follow-up studies, and serious commitment to high quality data.
