Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

The graduate student intern will be involved in prosecuting small and large molecule pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and biomarker data sets to aid in learnings, and design in vitro ADME experiments. The intern will work as a member of the Pharmacokinetic and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) ADME group and will be responsible for executing enzyme kinetics, in vitro inhibition, and bioanalytical experiments. Other responsibilities will include basic biochemistry research, electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.
The department of PKDM within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. The intern will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.
Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university
Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or similar degree program
In at least the second year of current program by summer 2020
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to excel in a highly collaborative, matrixed team environment.
