Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Implementation research is the scientific field that aims to rigorously evaluate strategies to increase the use of evidence into everyday clinical practice. The key components of the program are:

  • Didactic and experiential training in implementation research, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, and comparative effectiveness research. Fellows will participate in courses taught by the Center faculty, including those offered by Harvard Catalyst. For fellows spending two years at the Center, this may include training towards a Master of Public Health (or an equivalent degree) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
  • A weekly meeting series consisting of journal clubs, behavioral science design sessions, updates about on ongoing projects and methods sessions to develop new approaches for study conduct and results reporting.
  • Hands-on experience designing and conducting observational and experimental research projects focused on scalable interventions to engage patients and providers in healthcare; this will include mentorship in manuscript preparation and grant writing.
  • Frequent opportunities to interact and network with faculty, affiliates and other trainees at the Center and the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics.

To gain exposure to implementation research studies conducted in diverse settings and to the variety of investigators working in this field, Fellows will spend time at both the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and the Health Economics and Outcomes Research group at Boehringer Ingelheim, headquartered in Connecticut. The specific schedule for each Fellow will be based upon the nature of their projects and other training obligations, including required course work.

Fellows may participate in the program for one or two years. The program will provide salary, benefits, tuition (if applicable), as well as travel and accommodation costs for the periods of time that Fellows spend at Boehringer Ingelheim.

Job Requirements: 

Highly-desirable candidates will have:

Advanced training in clinical medicine, pharmacy, psychology or another healthcare field or doctoral-level training in methodologically-intensive research field such as health services research, health economics, epidemiology, or biostatistics.

Skills / Abilities / Competencies Required:    

  • Demonstrated an interest in implementation research.      
  • Prior experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and writing skills.
