Healthcare Staffing Professionals (HSP) is hiring multiple Epidemiologist positions to work with the Los Angeles County Acute Communicable Disease Control Epidemiology and Data Unit. Selected candidates will be hired by HSP and placed within the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. All positions will support COVID-19 response efforts and are fully remote. Out-of-state candidates are encouraged to apply as long as they can work Pacific Time hours. Please see specific job descriptions for each team below along with relevant application links.

 

COVID-19 Surveillance Team

  • High level SAS coding
  • Data analysis
  • Producing/writing daily and weekly data reports
  • Producing Quality Analysis and line list for adjudication, death verification
  • Close collaboration with other teams
  • Working knowledge of R is useful, but not required

 

Data Integration Team

The Epidemiologist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and performing QA on data linkage projects. This includes writing code to match between DPH surveillance data and external data sources, running existing matching processes to update surveillance data, validating data linkage outputs, overseeing data import processes, and maintaining data linkage documentation. Analyses will be performed in SAS, R, and/or Python.

 

Morning Data Team

  • SAS and R coding to process and manage large COVID-19 case and lab datasets
  • Produce COVID-19 daily and weekly reports for DPH leadership using SAS and R
  • Generate data visualizations using R, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fill data requests

Job Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent and three years of experience assisting in the design, conduct, and evaluation of epidemiologic studies and field investigations -OR- A doctoral degree form an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent -AND- one-year work experience as an epidemiologist; and

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Windows-based laptop or desktop device, with a speaker and mic;
  • Reliable Wi-fi/internet access; and
  • Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance.
  • Experience conducting intermediate epidemiologic analyses, including regression modeling.
  • Experience using statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, R) to manage data and conduct statistical analyses, including coding macros
  • Familiar with project management
