Encoded Therapeutics Inc. is a biotechnology company advancing precision medicines for a broad range of genetic disorders. Our mission is to unlock new opportunities for viral gene therapy through genomics-driven discovery. We focus on delivering life-changing advances for individuals with genetic disorders not addressable with current approaches. For more information, please visit www.Encoded.com

We are recruiting a Computational Biology Intern to join our Technology team full time for summer 2022. The Technology team is developing novel sequencing-based assays to screen through millions of potential gene therapy candidates. Currently, our team is using single nucleus RNA-seq to understand gene therapy candidates at a single-cell resolution. You will be helping our bioinformatics team build pipelines to analyze this data, quantify cell-level activity and specificity for promising candidates, and visualize key insights.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of genomics and computing and participate in the development of a diverse therapeutic pipeline driven by a transformative core technology. We are looking for someone with a strong working knowledge of software engineering and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, single nucleus RNA-seq in particular.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze single nucleus RNA-seq datasets (10X) to determine specificity and potency of screened candidates in cell types of interest
  • Visualize and communicate findings to key stakeholders
Job Requirements:
  • Enrolled full-time or part-time in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree program in computer science, bioinformatics, genomics, Computational Biology or similar field
  • Experience programming in a high-level language, such as Python or R
  • Strong background and understanding of NGS technologies and single nucleus and/or single cell RNA-seq
  • Experience with version control (e.g. GitHub)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing infrastructures on AWS and working with cloud-based tools such as AWS Batch, S3, and Sagemaker is a plus
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Superset, Tableau, matplotlib, ggplot2, or TIBCO Spotfire is a plus
