The Analyst will be responsible for the preparation, review, and submission of all proposals and renewals for the VAARC via NCIRE. S/he will perform complex analysis on the financial aspects of grants management for several Principal Investigators (PIs) at the VA Advanced Imaging Research Center (VAARC) located at the SFVAMC.  The incumbent will conduct budget analyses, develop projections, post award management and other duties as assigned.  This is a challenging position that requires interaction with the Department of Radiology Business Office, Department of Medicine Business Office, UCSF Office or Research, UCSF Controller’s office, the VA Medical Center and NCIRE.

Essential Functions:

  • Pre Award:  The analyst will work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to prepare research grant applications for new proposals, renewals and fellowship awards, clinical trial applications, budget preparation, establish timelines, CVs, biosketches and other documentation required by the granting agency and administrative office; assemble final proposals, reviews all proposals for compliance and completeness and acquire necessary signatures for submission.
  • Post Award:  Incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of post award duties including account reconciliation, overdraft clean-up, fund close-out and progress report submission for grants administered through UCSF, NCIRE as well  as the VAMC. Responsibilities include analysis of monthly ledgers, preparation of necessary cost transfers, payroll transfers, resolution of financial issues, preparation of long range budget projections and monthly budget status reports.  S/he will ensure expenditures comply with federal, state, and university policies and procedures, OMB Circular A-21, and CAS guidelines.
Job Requirements: 
  • BA/BS with a major in a related field and two years of experience in pre/post award grant management or research administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and demonstrate a strong work ethic
  • Experience working with financial data and administrative policies and procedures
  • Must possess excellent accounting skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with centralized databases and systems is required to generate reports and work directly with campus systems and databases
  • Excellent demonstrated communication skills – written, verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with Principal Investigators
  • Proficiency and literacy with MS Office, particularly with Excel, searching websites and other internet tools

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of UC Accounting practices and compliance with regulations issued by individual funding agencies
  • Prior UCSF grants management (pre or post) experience
  • Knowledge of electronic grant submission – grants.gov and Cayuse
  • Thorough understanding of all policies and procedures regarding the financial management of extramural funds, including: reimbursement policies, travel policies, fund accounting, cost accounting standards, accrual methodology for accounts payable transactions, cost transfer policies and purchasing process
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and university policies and procedures; OMB Circular A-21; SAS-112, and CAS as well as an understanding of compliance issues and principles.
